ELF Christmas Tree

Hi!

I'm so excited to share that I made it to Round 2 of the CAS Winter Design Team Search.

This time our challenge was to take inspiration from one of these movies
  • A Christmas Story
  • Elf
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
We were to choose a sketch and a movie. I choose to go with the movie ELF. I took my inspiration from both the sketch and the original movie poster.

This is the movie poster.
And this is the sketch. Below is my interpretation.

Paper: : Me & My Big Ideas AKLM-Holiday, Inky Antics Green Honeycomb Paper Pad
Accessories: CM Small Square Shapemaker, HoneyBee Party Stencil Set, Offray Stylish Accents 2 Loop Bow w/ Pearl

Wish me good luck! I need it.

Oh and for my fellow Brown Coats.  I know I used an Angel on top of my tree but I'm gonna go with the Michonne, from the Walking Dead's, theory of removing the arms and mouth of the walkers. If they don't have them then they can't hurt you, even though it is their nature to. OK maybe that's a little more complex then how she might explain it. But you know what I mean.

So in this case the Angel may or may not being a Weeping Angel but since it has no arms or face that I can see I feel safe. Trust me those Weeping Angels terrify me. Them and The Silence are probably the most terrifying Doctor Who creatures. IMO

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer

Hi!

Well it's that time of the year again. The time when all the children's Christmas specials come on. I remember when I was a little kid waiting for Frosty The Snowman's special and of course who can forget the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer special.

Did you know that Rudolph started out as a marketing ploy from Montgomery Ward's to bring in the holiday shoppers. I only know that because of my Fashion Merchandising major and that I worked at Montgomery Ward's after high school graduation. It was one of my jobs after high school.

But let's go back to our childlike memories and watch a little Rudolph, shall we?

Sewing Room Love

Hi!

I just had to share this card that I created for the MFT Sketch #99 - Nov. 21 - Nov. 27 challenge. I just love My Favorite Things although I don't own very many of them. Right now I just own their cloud die and am waiting on a flower die to come in to my LSS. I hope it comes in today because the LSS is closing FOREVER at the end of this month. :(

Although, I'm not using the MFT dies that I have for this the fun thing about these challenges is that if you win you get $15 in Store Credit, so you can buy some MFT goodies. Of course, if you use your MFT goodies to make the winning card you get $20 in Store Credit.

I hope to be able to use more MFT goodies soon as I totally shopped their after Thanksgiving sale. It was 20% off plus if you have a $60 purchase you get their Triple Scoop Free Set, and that set changes every month. Also if it is $65 you get FREE shipping.
So how could I resist?

But of course, I couldn't buy everything I liked so that's why I'm trying to enter their weekly challenge to see if I can win. Also they have another challenge that they do every month to win over $200 in MFT Products! And be the next MFT Guest Designer!

So onto my card. I used my favorite Can You Digi It? image.
Which is the Can You Digi It? Button Card.
I just love sewing stamp supplies. ;)
Like I've had that Sizzix Tim Holtz die on my wish list for a while. Also I LOVE the CTMH Burlap Ribbon. Which you can find in my CTMH online shop.

Actually, when I was younger I used to needle point A LOT and in our Ward there was a Sister that taught crochet. I didn't get to learn too much from her before she passed away. :(

Also, in college for my Textile class we learned how to knit. But I didn't get to learn to much of that either before the whole Fashion program fell apart at my Community College. Something happened between my instructor and the school board which was bad enough that she left before the semester was over. And let's just say since it was a Community College she was the Department.

As I was saying. Without further ado onto my card:

Stamps: Can You Digi It? Button Card
Paper: American Crafts LetterBox Warm Wishes
Accessories: Sizzix Tim Holtz Sewing Room, CTMH Burlap Ribbon, Hemptique Bakers Twine

C.Y.D.I. Thanksgiving Sale

Hi!

I just wanted to share with you real quick that Can You Digi It? has a holiday sale from now
until November 30, 2012.

Everything is 25% OFF digital and non-digital items. The non-digital items are on a
first come, first serve, so throw that turkey in the oven and get shopping!

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving 2012

Hi!

Hope y'all are having a Happy Thanksgiving!!! Do y'all do turkey or ham? We do both, my folks make everything: turkey, ham, egg rolls(we're Filipino), deviled eggs, pies (pecan and pumpkin for DH), rolls, plus all the traditional fixings. DH's folks are more traditional. They're American, MIL even can tell you how far as she has a degree in Genealogy.

Do you go to your folks house, your DH or significant others folks house, or does everyone come to your house? We had everyone at our house once. It was a logistical nightmare. Plus, I tried to go all Martha Stewart and make the fixings from scratch. DH was like you should have just opened the cans. Didn't even say "Thank you" for all my hard work. So let me just say I'm not planning to do that again for a LONG, LONG time.

Do y'all dress up? We only did our first Thanksgiving as a couple. DH's family had Thanksgiving dinner in Idaho. Which was cool. Except we had to carpool with his folks(all the way from Texas) and then you have to realize he's the baby of 6 and almost everyone at that time had kids (just his 3rd sister and her DH and us didn't).

Now we're the only ones that don't. We've got to save up as Adoption vs. IVF is basically the same financially.

So for our first Thanksgiving my DH's aunt had sewn little hats and collars for everyone. We were all to wear black shirts so we would look like Pilgrims. Yes, you heard right I said Pilgrims. Let's just say DH was not having any of that. And mind you it was my FIRST Thanksgiving as a WIFE in a new family. So I went along with it and tried to talk DH into going along too. Let's just say when it comes to DH and his family I don't try to put my nose where it doesn't belong.

Winter wishes

Hi!

I just love this Hello, Penguin by Betty Edwards over at Can You Digi It?

He just really makes me smile. And I'm not a winter person or a Christmas person really. I mean you wouldn't know it by how I get all crazy wanting to be sure we have the "perfect" Christmas. But that's cause my Christmas memories as a child weren't that great.

**TMI TIME**
I mean it's hard growing up and having your birthday fall around that time of year. For a birthday present I would basically have to pick one of my presents from under the tree. And I may have had a little cake but definitely no parties for me. Our trailer park was just too small for that.

And then as a teen when we lived in the apartment it really wasn't much better. Then my last Christmas with my dad was tragic, lets just say he had to divorce my mom after that or the State wouldn't let me come home.

My dog thinks I am

Hi!

I'm the mom to 3 of the sweetest dogs. And this week will be babysitting my mom's Chihuahua and checking in on her other dog.

So suffice it to say dogs are a BIG part of my life. I'd work at a pet store or a vet's office if it weren't for all the other types of pets. Cat allergies and the rest of the animals kinda creep me out.

This week over at the Can You Digi It? blog we are having a fun CAS challenge. As always you can create whatever comes to mind. It would be nice to see what you do with a C.Y.D.I.? image if you have it.

Please check out the challenge HERE on the C.Y.D.I.? blog. The DT have some awesome and inspiring CAS creations to share. This adorable dog can be found HERE.

HYCCT Winners

Hi!

I just wanted to share with y'all some of the winners of the HYCCT prizes over at SCS.

Specifically the ones that won the Can You Digi It? prize packages.

The winners for the C.Y.D.I. prizes have been announced. They are:
  1. tessaduck
  2. stamping_crazy
  3. LMcAree
  4. Lindsay Ettlinger
Congratulations to all of you. I'm so glad that the SplitcoastStampers can get together as a community
and help out the patients at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center to benefit patients being treated for breast cancer and their families.

I would check back on the SCS site for more details, if you are one of the winners.

I know when my mom was going through cervical cancer treatment  this year it was scary for all of us.  I mean she's our rock and she never gets sick. Plus, right before my mom was diagnosed her sister back home in the Philippines had just died from cervical cancer. Of course my mom is here in the US and medical treatment is significantly better here.

Fortunately for us my mom is currently in remission and I will be taking her to see her Oncologist in January for a follow-up.

I hope y'all have a blessed day.

Boston birthday wishes

Hi!

Last week was my Boston Terrier
Einstein's birthday.

He's 7!?! I don't know whether to be
happy or melancholy.

You see all my dogs are my babies but especially my Einstein. He's the one that gets to go everywhere with us
and the one that his grandparents and the
rest of the family ask about.

He's the one I prepped the most for. Just like your first born. I read all the books and since he's adopted. I looked through every ad to find just the right one. And the timing had to be just right for DH and me.

And he was bought from a family who owned his mom and dad and he was the runt of his litter. But boy was he the smartest one. He got all excited the day we came to pick him out. He was the only one from his litter who even noticed we were there. And because his parents belonged to the people we bought him from we had to wait just the right amount of time before they would let us take him home. And he's not from some kennel or pet store he's from a family who thought of his mom and dad
as part of their family.

He does have the paperwork to be registered but we never did because we didn't get him to be a show dog or to breed with other dogs. Although there were offers even after he got neutered.

He's the one with a scrapbook and yes I have a lot of his puppy pictures documented. But of course now we have two additional dogs so his scrapbook isn't up to date.

And since he's my baby I worry that I don't spend enough quality time with him. Especially since he is a dog and the longest lifespan for his breed is 11-13 years.

But I know he's happy. I mean just look at his adorable face.

This is my Boston Einstein as a puppy.

This is my baby Einstein now.

And he's what inspired me to create this card.

I created this card for a HYCCT challenge.

Little things

Hi!

Finding out that you,a family member or friend has cancer is such a shock. You don't know what to say, you are angry, frustrated, sad.....the world turns gray. But there is always hope and lot of times, the cancer does not win.

Trust me I know. This year my mom was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. Sadly the week before that happened my mom lost her sister to the same Cancer. Now you have to understand my aunt was in the Philippines and thank goodness my mom lives here in the US. So the type of treatment they received was different. My family was fortunate that my mom is now in remission. Sadly my aunt didn't have the same result.

That's why I'm so grateful to have been able to participate in the HYCCT challenges. This challenge was to show that hope in our cards, create a project mostly in gray tones, but at one splash of color.

Happiness

Hi!

I've been feeling the need to get a little stitch-y. So I couldn't help myself when I saw the HYCCT1207 challenge, which is Music Soothes the Soul. For this challenge we were to use pink and any music related stamps or paper.

Well the only music themed stamps are similar to the patterned paper I used below. Mostly because I love to see sheet music, it's probably from when I was in junior high and I was in the Choir. I've also been part of my Church choir although, now my voice is rubbish.

And although this In Stitch'z pattern is from Boys will be Boys. You've got to admit that girls rock too. After all just look at a few of my fave female singers: Pink, Katy Perry and Gwen Stefani.

Plus, I got to use this fun ticket stamp. It reminded me of a show ticket. Which just made me so happy. Sadly, I haven't been to a concert in a while. The last one I went to was awesome though. It was at Church and was with Ms. Gladys Knight and Saints Unified Voices. It was so spiritually uplifting.

What's your favorite type of music? Who's your favorite female that rocks?

Courage

Hi!

When someone is diagnosed with cancer there is a flurry of information, tests and procedures. One day things are normal and almost overnight your life is consumed with difficult and scary things. This calls for a big dose of COURAGE.

Trust me. I remember the day my mom was diagnosed. It was scary not only for her but also for our family.

I'm glad that I was able to help care for her in this time of need. It's so hard when someone you've looked to all your life is SICK.

That's why I am grateful that I participated with other crafters in the HYCCT challenges. And that I was able to send my cards off to help cheer up people going through the same situation my family was going through not that long ago.

Challenge 22 - Favorite Animal

Hi!

Today over at the Can You Digi It? blog is a fun new challenge. The challenge is to create a project with your Favorite Animal.

My project is a CAS card. Partly because lately I've been feeling sort of nostalgic
for the Polaroid pictures of my youth. I guess that sort of dates me but I'm OK with that.

The other is that my hand is badly sprained. It's in a splint and everything. It's been
that way for almost a week. One of my sweet dogs, who is the most hyper and
energetic of my dogs got a little to rambunctious when I was giving her a bath.

DH says I should let my hand rest but it's kinda tough as I have house work and crafting to do. Right now my coloring will be mainly done on Paint.net

I can still do the rest of the creating with a little help from my DH. He's doing the sentiment stamping because I can't apply enough pressure to do it on my own.

Here's my CAS card with my favorite animal,
after dogs, the penguin. They're standing
in the snow and wanted to send a
Happy Birthday message.
Stamps: CYDI Betty Edwards Hello, Penguin
Ink: CTMH Pacifica
Accessories: SU! Sizzix Framelits Bitty Banners, CTMH Round Sponge

Please stop by the Can You Digi It? blog to see the wonderful DT's projects.

I love

Hi!

Today's card shares a lot of the things I LOVE. Which are
  • pink
  • butterflies
  • ink
  • black
  • pearls
I even got a chance to use something I've been hoarding for a while which are my pearls from Want2Scrap. When I went to CKC San Marcos this year that was one of the things I was looking for in their booth. This pack has such an awesome assortment of pearls of 3 various sizes. Sadly when I went this year they didn't have any awesome packs like that. So let me tell you if I use a card with these pearls it's for a special purpose.

What do you have in your craft room that you are hoarding?
