Tuesday Tip Day: Ribbon Storage Part 1

Hi!

I hope you enjoyed the last Tuesday Tip Day that I shared about storing/organizing 6x6 paper pads.

For today's Tip Day we will be focusing on Ribbon Storage.

As always these are just the things that I've found that work out best for me. So you can take or leave the tips if you have found something that works better for you.

OK. They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. So today, I have to admit that  I am a Ribbon Hoarder.

I just love it.

I think it has something to do with either the fact that when my mom was growing up in the Philippines she was trained to be a seamstress. Or probably because my major the first time I was in college was Fashion Merchandising. Then again it may be a combination of the two.

Of course, it just could be because I love the patterns.

Which is why I feel that I just have to share the way I store my ribbons with y'all today.

I've tried various ways to store my ribbon.

Today, I will share the method I use for ribbons on spools.

I tried using dowel rods attached to my wall but the problem with that was

1. there just wasn't enough room to store my ribbons the way I liked
2. it was too hard to place new ribbon rolls in them and to remove used ribbon rolls

Thank goodness my craft room has a closet, so that I could still try this technique but in a way that works best for my needs. 

The method that I use is a five tiered pant hanger with a swinging arm. 

The reasons why are

1. It provides the right amount of spacing
2. It is easy to place new ribbons and remove used ribbons
3. And it allows me to utilize the closet in my craft room. 

The pant hangers that I use come from Target and you can find them HERE. 

I enjoy this ribbon storage method so much that I even use it for my gift wrap ribbon storage.

Next time, I will share the storage method that I use for loose ribbon storage.

Tuesday Tip Day: 6x6 paper

Hi!

Today, I thought I might start changing things up around here on my blog by offering a new segment.

I'm going to call it Tuesday Tip Day although with how things are going on in my life these might not show up until later in the week. Also these posts will probably appear every two weeks.

I will try to make these short, sweet and to the point. And hopefully these will be of some use to y'all. My first tip will be about those wonderful 6x6 paper pads, that I hope I'm not the only one that buys them.

The way that works best for me to store them is in a Close To My Heart My Acrylix Organizer. Not only is this wonderful for holding your CTMH stamp sets but it works great for 6x6 paper pads storage.

You can store the pads either the way they come in the store or you can store them the way that I do.

I can store so many more paper packs by cutting a file folder down to  6x6.5. I cut it to this size so that it works as a file tab for the My Acrylix Organizer.

By doing this,  I can store a third more paper pads then if I left them as they come in the store.

Also for my personal preference I do go through the paper pads and remove the sheets that I don't like which explains why my organizer holds the amount of packs you see above.

You may also notice in the above picture that their are a couple of different colors for the tabs. I use these to keep the companies together.

If you had a cute die cut for file folders you could make this even cuter.

My personal taste for this was to go more clean and simple.

Paper Scrap Storage

Does this look familiar?



I've been following a thread on Splitcoast Stampers that's all about how
you store your paper scraps.

These are the questions that were asked on this thread followed by my own
answers.

1) How do you store your paper scraps?
I store my scraps in an accordion file folder I got at Big Lots a couple of years
ago. It has the main accordion part, plus in the front it has a smaller accordion
part as well as a box on top that I store small projects in.
2) Do you purge your saved scraps and, if so, how often?
I haven't purged my saved scraps.
3) How good are you at actually using the scraps you've saved?
I go to my scraps immediately after I pick the card base. I also let my niece use
my scraps when she stays/visits. She's 14 and loves to make cards.

Her mom loves that she can come over here and play in my craft room.

I know there are a lot of different ways to organize your scraps. Today I thought
I'd share with you the way my scraps are organized. Now, it might not work for
you but it definitely works for me.

So this is how my system is setup:

I use this accordion file system and file my scraps by the ROYGBIV method. Meaning
First I start with
White
Pink
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blues
Indigo/Violet
Brown
Black
Miscellaneous

The file system that I have pictured is for my smaller scraps and then I have a
larger accordion file folder for my larger scraps and they too are organized
in the above system.

This system allows me to keep better track of my scraps which helps me to
use them in my crafting more often.
